In celebration of 25 extraordinary years of Maitreya’s presence
in the modern world, Share
International reviews highlights of the radical transformations
brought about in a quarter of a century.
On 19 July 1977, Maitreya the World Teacher entered London, an event
which signalled the start of His emergence into full public work.
In this tumultuous, fast-moving quarter of a century the world has seen
enormous change as a result of the direct effect of Maitreya’s
physical presence on all areas of life.
Despite apparent evidence to the contrary, more has been accomplished
than we can possibly know since one of the greatest effects has been
a change of consciousness.
At the same time vast developments in the political and economic fields
have been brought about. The dissolution of the fabric of outworn systems
has been hastened under the impact of His beneficent energy.
Where there was justice without freedom (as in the former Soviet Union),
freedom has been granted; where there is freedom but no justice, His
influence can be seen guiding at a wise pace the necessary changes.
Where peoples were oppressed and imprisoned for demanding their rights,
their leaders incarcerated, their voices muzzled, Maitreya’s direct
advice led to the liberation, not just of one man (as in the case of
Nelson Mandela), but of a whole nation.
Where division ruled, Maitreya’s hand struck the first blow at
the walls of separation, whether concrete or ideological. Where there
is conflict He works ceaselessly towards the conditions for peace.
Wherever hatred, fear and bigotry have locked people into age-old conflict
His inspiration to change can be seen.
Détente is His achievement, justice and sharing His aim, peace-brokering
His skilful art. Where men and women are open to His transformative
energies He can act to inspire, to impress their minds, and through
them steer the world into saner, more harmonious ways of living.
One of the first and most dramatic and visible effects of Maitreya’s
influence was the extraordinary peace process initiated by the late
Anwar Sadat of Egypt in response to Maitreya’s energies: who would
have thought it possible that an Egyptian head of state would address
the Israeli Knesset?
One radical transformation after another followed in rapid succession.
Benjamin Creme explains: “Working behind the scenes, unknown to
the vast majority, Maitreya has been changing the world.
If we think only of the events of the last few years, we will be amazed
at the transformation that has actually taken place."
"It was all so unexpected, and yet it has all happened so quickly
that people now take it completely for granted. The Cold War is over.
Since 1945, the Soviet Union and the United States of America, with
their allies, have been facing each other across the oceans, ready to
destroy the world. No one any longer expects that scenario to be enacted."
“Maitreya inspired Mr Gorbachev to go to America and bring about
the end of the Cold War and the opening up of the Soviet Union.
If someone had told us 10 years before that the Cold War would end,
and that the Soviet Union would break up and become a federation of
independent states, we would not have believed it possible. Yet so it
is today."
“If, just a few years ago, someone had said that Nelson Mandela,
in prison for 27 years, a leader of an illegal organization (the ANC),
would not only be released, but be elected President, the leader of
a new society, ending for ever apartheid in South Africa, we would not
have believed it possible."
" And yet that is what happened, against all expectations. Maitreya
appeared to Nelson Mandela in his cell and inspired him to meet with
President de Klerk and to create a new constitution in South Africa.”
Maitreya has similarly inspired many attempts to further the Middle
East peace process. For example, according to Benjamin Creme’s
information, Maitreya appealed to the King of Jordan to give up sovereignty
over the West Bank, and inspired Mr Arafat to accept the reality of
the Israeli state.
“If someone had said a few years ago that capitalist West Germany
and communist East Germany would be reunited as one country, we would
have said: ‘Not in our lifetime.’
These and many more such events have taken place in the shortest possible
time. They were predicted by Maitreya and published in Share International,
and issued as press releases to the world’s media, from 1988.”

Evidence of His continuing influence and guidance can be seen in the
solving of the tense impasse at the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem.
According to Benjamin Creme’s information, it was Maitreya’s
direct advice to Chairman Arafat which helped to break the deadlock.
Preparing Their way Over the last quarter of a century Maitreya and
the Masters of the Spiritual Hierarchy have also been preparing humanity
by flooding the world with miracles — signs of hope which alert
people of all faiths and of none to the emergence of the World Teacher.
Maitreya has gradually made Himself known to hundreds of thousands of
people throughout the world. He appears to individuals as a vision,
in the flesh, and in dreams.
He has appeared out of the blue and disappeared into thin air before
huge crowds at prayer and healing meetings, and in specially convened
gatherings of influential people — politicians, diplomats, members
of royal houses and leading figures within the media world.
“Why now?” is a question asked by many in the last 25 years.
The cynical have tried to dismiss the growing number of miracles as
“mass hysteria” brought on by a sort of “millennium angst”.
But countless people in every country in the world have had direct experience
of the myriad signs, and remain stubbornly convinced that the Buddha,
or Krishna, or the Messiah, or the Imam Mahdi, or the Christ is returning
to the world.
Enormous numbers of people have seen extraordinary miracles, or been
touched by Maitreya’s grace and healing, by His uplifting, encouraging
Presence.
People have been rescued from certain death, healed miraculously, inspired
with hope, inspired to take action to serve their fellow men.
None who have experienced Maitreya and the Masters have failed to be
changed to some degree. The media of the world and the pages of Share
International are never lacking in reports of some new sign or miracle.
How can He be recognized? Certainly the 6,000 people who saw Maitreya
in Nairobi, Kenya, in 1988 — 10 years after He had arrived in London
— knew instantly that the tall man in white robes Who appeared
out of nowhere, spoke to them, healed many, and disappeared again, was
the Christ come again.
In his public lectures, books and Share International magazine, Benjamin
Creme has provided much information about the Lord Maitreya, including
His physical appearance.
He stresses that, while Maitreya can and does appear in any guise He
chooses — sometimes a man, sometimes a woman — these are simply
‘familiars’, the form in which He elects to appear at that
moment.
Readers may notice that, although at first glance differing widely,
all the photographs of Maitreya printed here share a subtle resemblance
of quality and feature.
These photographs bear out information given by Benjamin Creme, who
describes Maitreya as tall (6 foot 3 inches), slim, often dressed in
white Pakistani clothes, broad-shouldered, and with a long face, long
nose and high cheekbones. His eyes are described as being “large,
dark, very luminous”.
As to Maitreya’s qualities, we offer this description given by
Benjamin Creme’s Master in Share International, October 1999:
“When men see Maitreya in full and open view, they will find
much to admire: His grace and joy; His modest wisdom and all-inclusive
love; His readiness to share all that He has and is with men of every
station."
" His humility will astound, His knowledge, vast and deep beyond
measuring, will reveal to men the paucity of their own."
"Thus will they turn to Him for guidance and, sure of His concern,
become again the students and earnest seekers they once were."
" Thus will it be, and thus will the Great Lord present to men
the Blueprint of the future. That future holds for men such wonders
that few today could comprehend them.”
After 25 extraordinary years that future, and those wonders, are closer
now than ever before.

Job Mutungi, editor of The Kenya Times, witnessed
Maitreya’s miraculous appearance in Nairobi: "The tall figure
of a bare-footed, white-robed and bearded man appeared from nowhere
and stood in the middle of the crowd ...
everyone was murmuring something. People were flat on the ground, weeping
uncontrollably in praise and worship, in total submission to the occasion....
In clear Swahili, which had no trace of accent, the strange man announced
that the people of Kenya were blessed ..."

library where Maitreya played the flute and allowed Himself to be filmed,
by Cielito Pascual, in the guise of a homeless person. (See Share

Since Maitreya the World Teacher comes for all humanity — people
of all faiths, and of no faith — here He makes a subtle connection
with a previous manifestation through the disciple Krishna, “the
Flute Player”.

Maitreya
says of Himself:
"Nothing
which I say will be bizarre or strange....
As a brother among brothers I shall speak for you all, voice aloud
your aspirations and hopes; make known the desire of all men for
a world at peace, for a just and noble readiness to share; for
the creation of a society based on freedom and love.
By My enunciation of these principles will you know and discover
Me."

"Throughout the world there are men, women and little children
who have not even the essentials to stay alive..."

Here Maitreya assumed the guise of a young woman begging; the ‘little
girl’ is in fact the Master Jesus, Who works closely with Maitreya.
"... it was a dark and rainy day.… I noticed
the eyes of a little girl sitting on the ground … Next to her probably
her young mother, a beggar. Seeing both sitting on the street I thought:
‘Look at the expression on the little girl’s face, so much joy
to live…. What a beauty and tragedy at the same time. We have to

sleeping on the floor, almost ... I thought: This one really needs our
help, and put some money hidden by her side ... When passing the same
place some 20 minutes later, both of them were awake ... I asked the mother
